Joi Miche’ Interview

It's cool picking the kinky minds of professional service providers and all, but as a writer at heart, there's just this added jolt of jolly when I have the pleasure of kicking it with fellow scribes. Keeping the J-train rolling, here's my interview with author Joi Miche'.

When did you discover your knack for writing?

I don’t know that I have a knack yet! LOL, I’m still trying to find it. Every day I’m learning and constantly trying to improve my craft. I’ve always loved writing though, ever since I was a little girl. I got invited to a creative writing workshop when I was nine years old, and I still have the short story I wrote wayyyyy back then. The opening line was “I have seven boyfriends, but I only like one.” I think I need to go back and work that story!

What made you jump into erotica?

I’ve always loved reading erotica. I would always sneak away and read my grandma’s Jackie Collins novels when I was younger, and I was so impressed how a story could be told and involve lots of passionate sex. I think bringing the beauty and fun of sexual exploration only enhances the reading experience, and I wanted to be a part of that. I also love a quote I read by the incomparable Toni Morrison: “If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” I noticed in most of the erotica that I read that there was a lack of diversity, so I wanted to write about characters that looked like me, exploring all of their deepest, darkest, most forbidden desires.

What are some of the kinks you explore in your stories?

I think a lot of my work leans more toward erotic romance. I love bringing out the passion between two consenting adults, especially when there’s no boundaries, no limits to what they will do to be with each other. My favorite kinks to explore within that realm are threesomes/menages, alpha males who tend to get a bit rough (not full BDSM though), age gap, public sex, and I’ve recently been getting into monster/shifter/paranormal erotica.

You’ve dropped quite a few books in 2021. Care to share some insight into your release strategy?

I have to write like I have to breathe, and I’ve been writing like crazy during lockdown. At first, I was releasing one work a week, but I’ve had to slow down with work and personal demands. I try to put out at least 2–3 works a month right now to keep up with the readers’ demands and wants.

What is your latest book and how did it come to fruition?

My latest book is Maui Mama. I try to time a lot of my work with holidays, so I wanted to write a Mother’s Day themed book. Tiana is a single mom who just wants a break from her daily responsibilities, and I know so many moms (and dads!) out there can relate to that. Hopefully, this book lets those overworked mamas imagine a sexy weekend on a beautiful island and have a much-deserved escape.

Any personal faves from your catalog?

Professor Valentine. It’s so near and dear to me, and quite personal.

In your experience as an author, what has been the most effective marketing tool?

Twitter has been fun to connect with readers and other authors, and surprisingly, TikTok! I’ve had a few readers tell me that they’ve discovered my work on TikTok.

Any upcoming projects we should know about?

Milf May is continuing, so be on the lookout for more mom-themed works this month. And June is for the dads! DILF June will have all the hot dad releases, so stay tuned!
